Mural of Hannah Senesh going up at 15th and F
SAN DIEGO — Japanese-born artist JUURI is painting a portrait of Hannah Senesh, the Israeli pioneer who parachuted behind Nazi lines to help Hungarian Jews and was captured and killed.
The mural is being installed at the Super Block building at 15th and F and will be the subject of tours from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, as part of the Women Who Paint Festival. Tours begin at 889 Park Boulevard.
JUURI is described by her publicist Lance Laytner as an Evangelical Christian who has fallen in love with Israel and has installed murals in Sderot and at the country’s northern border at Israel.
The Tokyo-born muralist, now an American citizen, is sponsored by Artists 4 Israel.

Political Bytes
Terra Lawson-Remer, a candidate for the Board of Supervisors, has announced that she will walk various neighborhoods in her district and has scheduled “meet and greet sessions’ at homes in Mira Mesa on Oct. 6, 13, and 19. … San Diego City Councilwoman Barbara Bry, a candidate for mayor, says these are the rules people should know who are thinking of contributing to her or to an opponent:
- I am a U.S. citizen or lawfully admitted permanent resident (i.e., green card holder).
- This contribution is made from my own funds, and funds are not being provided to me by another person or entity for the purpose of making this contribution.
- I am at least eighteen years old.
- I understand that it is unlawful for a contributor to be reimbursed by any organization, business, or similar entity for a contribution supporting or opposing a City candidate.
Political Contributions are not tax deductible for income tax purposes. City ordinance permits only personal contributions of $1,150.00 per individual, per election. Spouses or domestic partners may write a separate check or may write one check signed by both if both spouses are authorized on the checking account. Contributions from businesses, labor unions, PAC’s and other types of organizations are prohibited. We can not accept contributions from foreign nationals.
