SAN DIEGO– Two authors, whose books recently were reviewed by San Diego Jewish World, were front and center Sunday at the Artisans Fair at Temple Emanu-El.

One author was Rose Schindler, the Holocaust survivor who is the subject of a joint memoir with her late husband, Max Schindler, titled Two Who Survived. The other was Marcia Berneger, author of the children’s book A Dreidel in Time: A New Spin on an Old Tale.

Although the books by Berneger and Schindler are very different in subject and intended audience, the two women are both looking forward to heavy schedules of book talks and autograph sessions.

Elaine Galinson’s matching fund challenge

Elaine Galinson

Elaine Galinson has challenged donors to the Jewish Federation of San Diego County to increase their gifts by 10 percent or more.

“I established this matching fund–and increased my own gift to Federation — because I recognize what it takes to meet the growing needs of our Jewish community,” she said. “it’s important for all of us to step up to do more, and to support this vital institution’s efforts.”

She said she will match any contribution made before the end of this year that exceeds previous years’ pledges by 10 percent up to $50,000.

She recommended gifts be considered to the Federation for programs helping Jews in Israel, overseas, teens, young professonals, young families, and aging/ senior program.

Sushi or bagels?

Rabbi Rafi Andrusier

Chabad of East County is located at 7290 Navajo Road, Suite 207, San Diego.
