Satire: The essential Lord’s Prayer

By Laurie Baron

SAN DIEGO− “Some governors have deemed liquor stores and abortion clinics as essential, but have left out churches and other houses of worship. It’s not right. So, I’m correcting this injustice and calling houses of worship essential.” Donald Trump

Our Father, sheltering in heaven,
We wallow in thy maim.

We wear no masks; we take no tests
To pray together this day of rest.
To hasten our entry into heaven.
Give us this day our daily spread.
Forgive us our impatience
And our unwarranted complacence
To heed our president’s dictation.
Delivering us to covid.

And him the kingdom and the power and the glory
For another term, for another term.  Amen.
