Melody: American Pie
SAN DIEGO —
A long, long time ago
I can still remember how elections
Pitted loyal rivals
Contending for citizen’s votes.
Losers concede, winners didn’t gloat.
To guarantee democracy’s survival.
But November made me shiver.
With every statement he’d deliver.
The results he discounted
As the margins mounted.
I can’t remember if I thought
It was just time that he bought.
His claims struck me as overwrought.
The day democracy died.
So, bye-bye, lost American dream.
He informed us often of his cheating scheme.
And the MAGA folks were toting rifles and screamed
Shouting: “This’ll be the time to rebel.
Democrats can all burn in hell!
Did they read the constitution
Before they sought its dissolution?
As Donald incited them to do.
To ignore peaceful transition.
Acting like the law’s mortician.
To bid our democracy adieu.
Well, we know they worship him.
‘Cause they follow blindly and sing his hymns.
Man, they dig “America first.”
Stuffing freedom in a Hearse.
We who voted for the other guy.
Will our choice be denied?
Had Trump won, we must confess.
We would not have stormed Congress.
So, bye-bye, lost American dream.
He informed us often of his cheating scheme.
And his MAGA folks were toting rifles and screamed
Shouting: “This’ll be the time to rebel.
Democrats can all burn in hell!
The day democracy died.
