Satire: Vacation after Vaccination

SAN DIEGO —

Hello suitcase, my old friend.
I’ve come to pack you once again.
Because I’ve had two vaccinations
I can now take a vacation.
And the limits that confined me to my house
With my spouse
Are lifted since I won’t catch it.

In restless dreams I hoped alone.
Going maskless when I roamed.
Seeing friends and giving them a hug.
Drinking beer out of the same mug.
Watching films at a Cineplex
To break the hex,
Cast by the fear of catching Covid.

In the excursion I have planned.
Restaurants no longer banned.
Yes, I’ll keep my social distance.
Heeding Fauci’s strict insistence.
I’ll go shopping along with other folks.
And make jokes
About cabin fever during Covid.

“Fool” say experts, “It’s not done.”
Be careful when you’re having fun.
You should not become complacent.
Surges lurking are still nascent.
Hesitancy and mutations ruin vacations.
Just don’t forget.
Taking precautions against Covid.
