In Memoriam: Aviva Salomon, 78

Aviva Shapira, z”l

SAN DIEGO (Family Remembrance) — After a long, busy, and varied life, Aviva Salomon (born Shapira) of San Diego passed away on May 19, 2021, succumbing to complications from a fall at home, and from many years of various health problems, including autoimmune disease. She died peacefully, surrounded by her family, sons, and little granddaughters. She was 78.

Aviva was born in Jerusalem, Israel, to parents who left Poland. She spent her formative years among hard-working, loving friends and family, graduating from elementary and high schools, followed by a military service in the Israeli Air Force as a radar operator. After her discharge from the service, she worked as a medical lab technician, while also studying pharmacology, planning to become a pharmacist.

In 1965, she met her future husband and they were married in June 1967. She continued as a student while having and raising their two sons, Michael in 1969 and Ari in 1971.

In 1972, the young family moved to Buffalo, N.Y., and spent a year in the unfamiliar cold and snow. Soon, the family moved to San Diego, where they have stayed ever since.

Initially, Aviva tried part-time occupations as a medical lab assistant, and as a teacher at Soille San Diego Hebrew Day School and later at Congregation Beth Israel. However, after several years of this, Aviva decided on a complete change of career and became involved in real estate, combining her medical background and her interest in people to build a long successful lifework occupation in that field.

Aviva is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, David, and her two sons. She will be remembered as a loving, kind, and patient person. She was loved deeply by all who knew her and will always be terribly missed.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Nepal Emergency COVID-19 fund.
