SAN DIEGO (Press Release) – The Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego (JCF) recently launched the giv4 homelessness in San Diego fund, a novel approach to encourage everyone in San Diego to participate in the solutions to one of our region’s most challenging issues.
Having already raised over $130,000 within two months of giv4’s launch, JCF has partnered with instructor Danna Yunis of Yoga Church SD and the Dana Hotel on Mission Bay to host Flow for a Cause, a donation-based outdoor yoga event on Sunday, October 24, 2021.
Through the giv4 initiative, JCF worked with local homelessness funding experts, as well as people with lived experience of homeless, to curate a fund of 12 impactful nonprofits working in homelessness (1) prevention; (2) intervention, and/or (3) systems change. 100% of donations received go directly to the 12 nonprofits. The nonprofits from the giv4 fund will participate at Flow for a Cause, giving attendees the opportunity to connect first-hand and learn about their critical work.
“Many people want to do something to address homelessness, but don’t know where to begin,” says Ollie Benn, JCF’s Director of Philanthropy and Social Impact. “The giv4 initiative makes it easy to give to the cause and help people better understand the issues. JCF’s mission includes advancing a sustainable, just, and vibrant society for all of San Diego, and giv4 is intended to do just that.”
“As soon as I heard about the giv4 homelessness initiative, I wanted to help raise awareness for the cause,” said Danna Yunis, founder of Yoga Church. “Yoga can be transformative and builds community, so I immediately offered to host a class to help bring change for our city.” After deciding to donate her time to offer the class, Yunis reached out to the Dana Hotel, which offered to donate a visually striking outdoor lawn space to host the event.
The Flow for a Cause yoga class will begin at 10:00am. Participants should bring their own mat, water, sunblock, and yoga props. The class is donation-based, with all proceeds supporting the 12 nonprofits of the giv4 homelessness in san diego fund. The Dana on Mission Bay hotel is located at 1710 West Mission Bay Drive, San Diego, CA 92109. Participants must register their place in the class on Eventbrite (tinyurl.com/flow4acause).
