Camp Mountain Chai Names Rachel Shyloski as Next Director

Rachel Shyloski

SAN DIEGO  (Press Release) — Rachel Shyloski has been promoted to camp director of Camp Mountain Chai in the wake of the departure of Dan Baer, a six-year veteran, who is relocating to Rochester, New York. Shyloski will step up January 3rd to the directorship of the camp, which is run under San Diego County Jewish community auspices.

Shyloski has been with Camp Mountain Chai for 12 years, with the last seven as associate director and assistant director.  She has a master’s degree in social work from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro.

In addition to heading Camp Mountain Chai’s “Camper Care” program, she also was a leader in securing a Yedid Nefesh (Beloved Soul) grant from the Foundation for Jewish Camp to nurture mental, emotional and spiritual help at the camp which is located in the San Bernardino Mountains.  The program was implemented last summer to the benefit of campers and staff who returned after a difficult pandemic year.

“Rachel is one of our most multi-faceted staff members; she is a lover of nature and a true outdoorswoman,” commented David Bark and Buddy Voit, respectively the board president and executive director of the camp.

Baer commented, “I’m proud to pass the torch to Rachel, who has been my trusted partner since I started at Camp Mountain Chai.  Rachel cares unendingly for the campers and staff, and our community will continue to benefit immensely from her leadership.  No one is more prepared to lead CMC.”
