Considering that Shakespeare himself had to navigate various plagues and pandemics in his theatrical career, it’s almost too appropriate that the filming of Joel Coen’s “The Tragedy of Macbeth” was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020. It’s not the only way in which the 400-year-old play feels startlingly relevant.
