LA JOLLA, California — Three Jewish poets will be featured at the virtual Jewish Poets-Jewish Voices program on Zoom, Monday evening, January 24, 2022, 7 p.m.

Poets Elaine Moore, Dr. Marin Bobrowsky, and song-writer Carla Berg will be heard during the first hour, followed by a half hour of open mic.

Elaine Moore has had some of her poems published.

One of her poems was recently selected for the San Diego Journal of Poetry. She was inspired to write by her brother, Harvey Mathason, an award winning poet, author and photographer. Moore is a native of Philadelphia and a graduate of Temple University, with a major in English. She taught in public schools in Philadelphia and in San Diego before retiring in 2003. During summers, she traveled throughout many countries, including Israel.

Dr. Martin Bobrowsky, a retired cardiologist with Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles, attended the Bronx High School of Science in New York City, majored in Biochemistry at Cornell University and received his medical degree from New York University. However, he also had an interest in language and writing. He edited the high school newspaper and wrote a personal column in each issue. At Cornell, an essay penned by him in the school magazine influenced a change in school policy. His interest in Yiddish stories and poetry and his participation in a Zoom class on Israeli poetry and history has stimulated his recent poetry writing.

Carla Berg, a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, is a professional singer, songwriter and childhood educator. She holds a post-graduate degree in Child Development Education and Psychology from the Pontificia Universidade Catolica de Sao Paulo. She has also worked with vocal coaches, participated in music workshops, acting workshops, poetry and songwriting workshops to hone her skills. Her original songs have been included on recordings produced in San Diego, including a release blending lyrics in Portugese, English, Spanish, and Hebrew.

There is no charge for this program, sponsored by the Astor Judaica Library of the Lawrence Family JCC and the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture. Please register to attend. If you write poetry and would like to read one of your works during open mic, please sign up here.
