Jacob Kamaras Sells San Diego Jewish World for $2, Doubling Initial Investment

San Diego Jewish World (SDJW) owner Jacob Kamaras today announced his sale of the website to the San Diego Union-Tribune for $2, doubling his initial investment in the media property.

The Union-Tribune said in a statement, “Why not? What can we lose? If Jews constitute approximately 2% of the U.S. population, surely we can invest a mere $2 to expand our media holdings.”

Kamaras had served as the SDJW’s owner since January 1, 2022, moderately increasing advertising revenue and substantially decreasing news content. The formula clearly worked.

“Particularly in these times of skyrocketing inflation, this kind of return on investment is unparalleled,” said Kamaras.

SDJW founder and Editor Emeritus Donald Harrison — now Immediate Past Editor Emeritus — expressed surprise at how quickly Kamaras “flipped” the site, but simultaneously sounded a hopeful note on the publication’s future.

“It was always my intention, upon selling the San Diego Jewish World, to leave the outlet in good hands,” Harrison said. “While I did believe Jacob would maintain ownership for perhaps at least a single calendar year, I remain gratified that the site will live on through the highly capable hands of the Union-Tribune. I also applaud Jacob for doubling his investment — a truly remarkable feat in these continuously challenging times!”
