Rhea Joyce Shifrin Goot passed away Sept. 12, 2021, in Laguna Woods, California. She was 85.
Born in Chicago on Oct. 26, 1936, Rhea attended South Shore High School and the University of Illinois at Navy Pier.
She raised her children in Chicago, Phoenix, and San Diego.
She completed her undergraduate degree at Arizona State University, obtained her master’s degree in Social Work at San Diego State University, and worked for Child Protective Services and the U.S. Navy in San Diego before retiring to Laguna Woods.
Rhea was a unique person — beautiful, intelligent, and feisty. She loved learning, traveling, dancing, laughing, and being surrounded by family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters Marcy, Julie, and Caryn; her sister Naomi; her son-in-law Jorge; and her granddaughter Noa. She is missed deeply by all who knew her.
I knew Rhea in the 1970s and 1980s. She was a good friend and lived not far from me in the San Diego community of San Carlos. I am sure she is dancing, learning, and enjoying The Other Side.
My condolences to all the family members.
Rhea was a kind, caring and a supportive friend. She will always be remembered with love and appreciation. She is greatly missed.
