New Protests in Israel Against Judicial Reform

Thousands of people again protested across Israel on Wednesday against the planned reform of the country’s judiciary. The central connecting road between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem was blocked several times. There were some violent confrontations of demonstrators with the police and several arrests. In Tel Aviv, eyewitnesses reported that police had used smoke bombs. The right-wing religious government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to make it possible for parliament to overrule decisions of the Supreme Court with a simple majority.
