SAN DIEGO (SDJW) — Kol Tefilah, led by Debbie Mishek, M.D., is a performance group that periodically leads Friday night services at Tifereth Israel Synagogue “with joy, music, intimacy, and an awareness of God’s presence,” according to an announcement for the 6:15 p.m. Kabbalat Shabbat service at 6:15 p.m., Friday, March 1. “Together we will join in song, prayer and niggunim (melodies), as we connect with each other, and with God as a unified community. We will share many beautiful melodies and meditations to complement the service.”
Here is a link to some of the melodies the congregation sings during the service.

Ruth Weber, director of the San Diego Jewish Men’s Choir, is working on a documentary about the group. The film’s title, Ale Brider (All My Brothers), takes its name from a popular, upbeat Yiddish song that the group sings. Weber says the documentary will be submitted to Jewish film festivals. One of the newer members of the group is Steve Mishek, husband of Debbie Mishek, who is coincidentally mentioned in the item above.
GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS
Safer California, an organization promoting gun safety and gun violence prevention, has endorsed a slate of candidates including these members of the Jewish community: Joanna Weiss, Democrat, in an Orange County race for Congress; Democratic State Sen. Scott Wiener for reelection in the San Francisco Bay area; and San Diego County Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer for reelection. Lawson-Remer also has been endorsed for reelection by The San Diego Union-Tribune.
