SAN DIEGO (Press Release) – As The Butterfly Project celebrates its 18-year journey of transformational Holocaust education and memorial-making through the arts, Keren-Dee Hamui has been named as its new Executive Director,  succeeding co-founder Cheryl Rattner Price.

Cheryl Rattner Price

Price will continue to lend her visionary insight and deep commitment to this work as a strategic advisor. Jan Landau, co-founder and Education Team Chair will continue in her role.

Keren-Dee Hamui comes to The Butterfly Project with a diverse and rich background in leadership,
fundraising, and community engagement. Over the past four years, she has served in multiple capacities with the Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces (FIDF), most recently as the Western Regional Operations Manager. There, she led numerous successful fundraising campaigns and donor-focused mission trips, demonstrating her ability to connect with communities and inspire action.

Hamui has a deep connection to The Butterfly Project’s mission. She and her family have been active members of the San Diego Holocaust survivor community where they have dedicated their efforts as stewards of the Lou Dunst Foundation. This commitment to Holocaust education and remembrance is a testament to her profound understanding of The Butterfly Project’s mission.

An entrepreneur at heart, Hamui has successfully launched and operated multiple businesses, including event planning and catering services. Her entrepreneurial spirit, combined with her branding, marketing, and social media skills, positions her uniquely to lead The Butterfly Project into its next chapter. Hamui’s creative vision and leadership will sustain and amplify The Butterfly Project’s impact at this critical time when antisemitism and Holocaust distortion and denial are at unprecedented levels.

She lives in Poway with her husband, two children, and two Goldendoodles, and she brings a

vibrant, family-oriented perspective to her work. Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Hamui is an alumna of the University of Southern California.

“The Butterfly Project is excited for the energy, experience, and enthusiasm Keren-Dee brings to the team,” Price commented. “We are confident that under her leadership, The Butterfly Project will continue to flourish, inspiring action and making a lasting impact on communities around the world through education, the arts, and memorial-making.”
