SAN DIEGO (SDJW) — San Diego Jewish World has a new Assistant Editor, Cailin Acosta, it was announced Wednesday, May 1, by publisher and editor Donald H. Harrison.
“I first met Cailin when I wrote a feature story about the way she paints on rocks,” Harrison commented. “Later, I was able to observe her professionalism as the editor of Tifereth Israel Synagogue’s Sisterhood Bulletin. I knew that she had both the technical expertise and the love for her fellow Jews that made her ideal for the job.”
Acosta will handle such columns as the San Diego Jewish Community Calendar, “Our Shtetl San Diego County,” and “Today’s Jewish Birthday,” among other tasks.
The new assistant editor is a San Diego native and a graduate from Helix High School in La Mesa. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from San Diego State University. She moved to Dallas, Texas where she received her Master’s in Social Work and licensure. She worked in county mental health services in Texas for many years. During that time, she met and married her husband and had boy/girl twins who are now 12 years old.
When the twins were two years old, she felt moving back to San Diego would not only cure her homesickness but her father was diagnosed with Frontal Temporal Dementia and was declining quickly. She and her family got to spend the last couple of months with him before he passed and the twins still remember him.
While in high school and college, Acosta attended Chabad House and Hillel events with friends. When looking for a synagogue to get more involved in, she felt at home at Tifereth Israel Synagogue in San Carlos. She participated in the Braun Book Club, helped the bakers in the kitchen, and joined the Sisterhood Board as its publicity chair and recording secretary. She is often seen helping at events and is always there is to help with any technical needs.
In her spare time, she loves to knit baby blankets as presents for new parents and grandparents. She loves to create birthday cards and, of course, to paint rocks.
