SAN DIEGO — Celebrating Shabbat as a community is always my favorite part of the week. There is nothing I love more than uplifting music and ruach (spirit). Tonight, the first Friday of the month, Tifereth Israel Synagogue’s Shir Chadash Band welcomes Shabbat and you leave with a positive ruach. All are welcome. Click here for more information.

Yom HaShoah is the remembrance of the six million Jews who lost their lives during the Holocaust. Many of us have met survivors and have read or heard their stories. The Jewish Federation of San Diego is holding an event from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, May 5, at the Lawrence Family JCC. In these turbulent times, the theme this year is “Coming Together in Strength and Unity” which is very much needed in our community. Acclaimed author of The Little Liar, Mitch Albom, will be the guest speaker. Click here to register.

Temple Adat Shalom and Ner Tamid Synagogue will also be commemorating Yom HaShoah at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 6 at Temple Adat Shalom in Poway.

Applications for young professionals are now open for young professionals to join the ADL’s Glass Leadership Institute (GLI). The Glass Leadership Institute will meet one evening a month starting in September at a Kearny Mesa location. Topics will range from understanding antisemitism, interfaith relations, and law enforcement training. Click here to submit an application.
Here are testimonials from two current GLI participants:
“As someone who is not Jewish, my participation in the program has provided significant insights into understanding antisemitism and the mission of the Anti-Defamation League. As a practitioner in diversity, equity, and inclusion, the knowledge gained from the sessions and interactions with other participants has proven invaluable. I see myself as an ally to the Jewish community, actively learning and advocating for human rights and dignity not only for Jewish people but for all marginalized communities.” -Alberto Bautista, current GLI participant
“I applied to the GLI program to strengthen my connection with the ADL and learn more about their many programs’ inner workings. Our cohort started just a month before October 7. I never could have imagined how quickly and profoundly the world could change, and how needed my GLI education would be to find a path forward through such difficult times. The program provided me with tools, knowledge, and a sense of community that helped me find resilience and a deeper sense of purpose.” -Elizabeth Tobias, current GLI participant

Every Wednesday in May, the AJC (American Jewish Committee) of San Diego will post a mini-lesson on its X account (formerly Twitter) @AJCSanDiego which will highlight awareness and celebrate Jewish pride.
