NEW YORK (Press Release)— Since October 7, American Zionist women have played a critical role in advocating for Israel and the victims of the Hamas attacks and in condemning the worldwide explosion of antisemitism. It’s in this context that Hadassah, The Women’s Zionist Organization of America, announces its second annual list of “18 American Zionist Women You Should Know.” And like Israel and Zionism today, the list – made up of Jews and non-Jews, of American-born women, American immigrants and Americans who have made aliyah – represents a wide range of viewpoints, identities and activities.
From TV star Debra Messing, who is executive-producing Primal Fear, a documentary about the post-October 7 eruption in antisemitism, to Hadassah Zionism-education star Diana Diner, from Christian Zionist Destiny Albritton to LGBTQ+ progressive Zionist Toby Klein, from black Jewish poet/digital content creator Tova Ricardo to constitutional scholar Sam von Ende – these women and the others on the 2024 list represent the diversity of Zionism today.
“America’s Zionist women were a powerful force for Israel well before the country was founded and they are a powerful force for Israel today,” said Hadassah National President Carol Ann Schwartz. “Since October 7, they have raised their voices to tell the world about Hamas’ brutality and to call out the antisemitic stereotypes and prejudices that have burst forth from every corner of the world. These women will help see us through the current crisis and shape the future of Zionism and Israel.”
THE LIST
–SHAI ALBRECHT, Pro-Israel Social Media Influencer – A certified personal trainer, Albrecht started her social media platform to focus on physical and mental health. She began advocating for Orthodox Jewish women and correcting misconceptions about Israel in response to the rise in antisemitism after October 7. Albrecht has been vocal about her goal of raising the younger generation’s awareness and her criticism of anti-Israel rhetoric on college campuses, calling for the suspension of pro-Palestinian groups that promote violence against Jews. Raised in a tight-knit Orthodox Jewish community in Maryland, Albrecht now lives in the Shenandoah mountains, where she is raising chickens, goats and three children on a homestead.
–DESTINY ALBRITTON, Christian Zionist Activist – The senior director of Next Gen Christians United for Israel (CUFI), Albritton works to ensure that the next generation of Christian leaders strongly supports Israel. She also oversees the Israel Collective, a program of Christians United for Israel that connects young American Christian leaders to Israel. Albritton has led many advocacy missions to Israel for young allies of Israel and the Jewish people, including the CUFI Solidarity Mission to Israel, the Jewish National Fund’s Caravan for Democracy, the Israel on Campus Coalition’s Geller International Fellowship Mission to Israel and the United Arab Emirates. Her actions led to a resolution agreement addressing antisemitism as a form of discrimination under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, which laid the groundwork for similar lawsuits against other universities. Cojab Moadeb was named one of 2021’s “Top-50 Pro-Israel Influencers” and one of JNS’s “Top-40 Latin American Pro-Israel Advocates and Leaders” for the same year. Among the programs she has developed: “18 American Zionist Women You Should Know”; “What Zionism Means to Me,” a series of panel discussions around the country, and Hadassah’s first Zionist symposium, held in 2023. The daughter of Russian immigrants (she speaks the language fluently), Diner credits the 10 days she spent in Israel with Birthright in 2005 with inspiring a career in Zionism education. Before joining Hadassah in 2020, she spent almost 20 years working with teens and young adults at Birthright, Hillel International, the Israel on Campus Coalition, Masa Israel Journey and Young Judaea, and at the Israeli consulate in New York.

She sees the Upper West Side of Manhattan, the heavily Jewish New York City neighborhood where she lives, as a wonderful illustration of why Israel needs to be a free, democratic Jewish country in which Judaism in all its forms is protected and other cultures, ethnicities and religions are respected.
