SAN DIEGO – As students go back to college next week in San Diego, be mindful of traffic and young adults walking to campuses in the college areas. Meanwhile, the Israeli American Council (IAC) put together an essential guide for students to combat campus antisemitism. This “cheat sheet” is designed to help students feel stronger and supported as they face these challenges. Click here to download.

OBITUARY NOTICE
Marcia Berger passed away on Wednesday, July 10. Family and friends celebrated her life on Saturday, August 17. Anna Lipshaw, Bergers stepdaughter, shared a piece of her eulogy: “Marcia is remembered as a confident, strong, honest – sometimes too honest, cantankerous, funny and loving woman. If she were here today, she would be thrilled to see so many of us celebrating her life. She loved a good party and wouldn’t want any of us to be sad.”
Matthew Strauss passed away on Tuesday, August 20. Strauss was on the Chancellor’s Council at UCSD and led the drive to establish the Chancellor’s Endowed Fund. Strauss and his wife Iris created the Stefanie Dawn Strauss Ovarian Cancer Clinic at UCSD and were the first at UCSD to fund an experimental personal cancer vaccine for their daughter, Tamara Strauss. Under Matt’s leadership, the Strauss Family Foundation has gifted land and artworks to UCSD for an art gallery to be established on campus (“the Strauss”), as part of the Triton Center redevelopment. Donations in Strauss’ memory can be made at MCASD and/or UC San Diego Foundation. The funeral will be held at El Camino Memorial Cemetery at 10 a.m., Friday, August 23, Congregation Beth Israel reported. Click here to read an archived article on Matt and Iris Strauss.
