Some Heat Wave Advice from Council President Sean Elo-Rivera

SAN DIEGO – The heat is on! Good grief, I know relief is in sight, but it needs to hurry up and get here already. We are in a heat wave which is described as extreme heat in a period of abnormally hot weather. A heat wave is the result of a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere that traps heat near the ground which forms a wave or a bubble effect over the area. Heat waves vary on where you live so complaining about the heat here in San Diego is not as bad as it feels in other locations that don’t get relief from the ocean breezes and have high humidity.

City Council President  Sean Elo-Rivera (District-9) shares the locations of cool zones in the area and reminds citizens to take care of themselves, keep hydrated, stay out of the sun and check on your relatives and neighbors. Cool zones are a great place to escape the heat, get work done with accessing free WiFi and giving your house a rest from running the air conditioning.

Young Israel of San Diego shares the following recipe for Tahini Halva Brownies:

Ingredients:
1 cup extra virgin olive oil
8 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
4 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup cocoa powder
½ teaspoon salt
6 ounces halva divided
¼ cup tahini

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, line a 9×13 inch casserole with parchment paper. In a small bowl combine olive oil with chocolate and melt over a double boiler or for 1 minute in the microwave. Set aside and cool. In a large bowl whisk eggs with sugar until pale, about 3-4 minutes by hand. Gently mix in melted chocolate just until blended. Add flour, cocoa and salt and fold in gently, careful not to over mix. Break up large chunks of halva and place them on the bottom of prepared pan reserving 1 ounce to crumble on top layer. Pour batter over top to fill pan. Spoon tahini over top of brownies in 12 spots, then use a knife to swirl through. Bake for 20 minutes, until top is cooked, its okay if the middle is a little soft, that will help result in a chewy gooey brownie. Immediately after removing from oven, crumble halvah over top. Allow to cool at least an hour before cutting and storing or serving.

JEWISH HUMOR

Chabad of Poway shares the following joke: “Advice from Moses” A burglar broke into a house one night. He shone his flashlight around, looking for valuables, and when he picked up a CD player to place in his sack, a strange, disembodied voice echoed from the dark, saying, “Heaven is watching you.”

He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off and froze. When he heard nothing more after a bit, he shook his head, promised himself a vacation after the next big score, then clicked the light back on and began searching for more valuables. Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard, “Heaven is watching you.”

Totally rattled, he shone his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice. Finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot. “Did you say that?” he hissed at the parrot. “Yes,” the parrot confessed, then squawked, “I’m just trying to warn you.” The burglar relaxed. “Warn me, huh? Who do you think you are, anyway?” “Moses,” replied the bird. “Moses!” the burglar laughed. “What kind of people would name a parrot ‘Moses’?” The bird promptly answered, “The same kind of people who would name a Rottweiler ‘Heaven’!”

  1. Why is SDG&E conducting power usage between 4 and 9 PM on three of the warmest days of the year?? They say that usage between 4 and PM on these designated days will result in Extremly high usage rates on these days.
Does SDG&E expect the citizens to intentionally make their lives more miserable?
    PLEASE RESPOND.
