ENCINITAS, California – My family and I camp at San Elijo State Beach in November and either March or May as these are off-season times and easier to get sites. After breakfast at Pipes Café, the kids and I like to stop into the Cardiff-by-the-Sea County Library to check its selection of books and how it compares to the La Mesa County Library.
The kids like to read on the beach and around the campfire and when they are done, we return them to the library near our home in La Mesa, which is another part of the county library system.
The kids were off pursuing the Young Adult section. I came across an exhibit behind a glass cabinet sponsored by the Gourd and Basket Guild San Diego, California. Its goal is to preserve, promote and perpetuate the appreciation of gourd and basket art by providing a supportive, sharing and educational environment.
Artist Debra Zimmerman made a Tree of Life utilizing a gourd with wire and stone chips. This beautiful piece of art can be purchased for $45 and Zimmerman can be contacted here.
What a delight it was to find a Jewish tchotchke in the laid back, cozy beach neighborhood of Cardiff- by-the-Sea in Encinitas!
