SAN DIEGO – Matzah ball soup is also known as the “Jewish penicillin.” Whenever I am sick, that is what friends would tell me. “All you need is some matzah ball soup and you will feel so much better.”
But is there a connection between matzah ball soup being a cure-all to feeling better? Not really, but it helps with hydration and getting nutrition in your system to give your body the power to beat the cold or flu. Also, the warm broth can help clear up your sinuses.
I make vegan “chicken” soup with vegan matzah balls, but when I am sick, who wants to be cooking? I usually send my husband out to get me tomato soup. Any warm soup can be healing but of course listening to your doctors and taking the prescribed medications help to expel the infection.
