SAN DIEGO — Racheli Boudjnah has truly found her voice through art. At the opening of a recent exhibit, she showcased her inner Jewish soul. She utilizes oil and watercolor paints to create compelling moments that reflect her Jewish heritage. Her art serves as a journey back in time, revealing the richness of our traditions. For viewers who may not be Jewish, her work opens a dialogue that fosters an understanding of Judaism.
Born in San Diego to Rabbi Chalom and Mairav Boudjnah of Chabad at SDSU, Racheli is the second of eight children. At her latest exhibit, the crowd was particularly moved by a painting depicting prisoners from the Westerbork Transit Camp in the Netherlands during 1943.
This emotional piece captured the poignant moment of young children and women lighting Chanukah candles before facing the unknown. As a self-taught artist, Racheli seamlessly weaves her Jewish family tradition into her artwork, reminiscent of how Holocaust prisoners expressed their experiences through drawing what they saw.
