  1. In New Zealand we are not getting Synagogues firebombed and cars burnt out while houses are defaced but we are not free from antisemitism. The most recent incident involves American extremist Candace Owens. A couple of months ago she applied to come here to speak using an entertainer’s visa. Because she had been denied entry to Australia, she was recently denied entry here. Our law states that if you are denied entry to similar countries such as Australia, Canada, or the UK, our officials can use that fact to Deny entry. Immigration officials did exactly that Last week. The Minister in charge, Chris Penk, was lobbied hard by the Free speech Union. This extremist group has on its executive committee two members of The Jewish community, Mr Dane Giraud and Dr David Cumin. Cumin Is a co-director of the Israel Institute of New Zealand and a member of the New Zealand Jewish Council. The FSU was successful in convincing the minister to Issue Ms. Owens a visa this week. This has caused splits in the Jewish community with Juliet Moses spokes person of the NZ Jewish council and Deborah Hart head of the Holocaust centre in Wellington taking different views to that of The FSU and its Jewish members. I myself as chairman of the Hawkes Bay Province friends of Israel do not want Owens coming to New Zealand. I have in the past asked senior officials of the FSU about David Irving. He was denied entry after being refused entry to Australia years ago. The members I spoke to say that Irving should have been allowed entry. I don’t. I find the FSU to be a very extreme organization. I think Dr Cuman and Mr Giraud should resign from the FSU forthwith.
