LA JOLLA, California — Once again, the JCC upheld its tradition of bringing the community together Dec. 25 for an evening of kosher Chinese food and comedy.
This year’s performer was the hilarious Jackie Hoffman, whose outstanding show was inspired by Patrick Stewart’s adaptation of A Christmas Carol. Many may know Jackie from Only Murders in the Building, Uma Heller.
In her one-woman performance, Jackie introduced various characters that allowed the audience to connect with her as she explored her life through visits from the ghosts of Chanukah’s past, present, and future. Amid the laughter and delicious food, it was a magical way to kick off Chanukah 2024, surrounded by tradition, light, love, and of course, laughter.

RANCHO SANTA FE, California — A celebration of 18 years of Chabad in Rancho Santa Fe was held Thursday, Dec. 26, illuminating the neighborhood near the Inn in Rancho Santa Fe. Outdoor activities for children and various festive foods drew a crowd of over 300.
Activities included huge bubbles with blue and white balloons, face painting, art and illuminated decorations. On the second night of Chanukah, the menorah was lit by Rabbi Levi Raskin’s father, along with Holocaust survivors Anita Fuchs and Ben Midler. The sunset was unusually special as the menorah was lit and music filled the air.
On a personal note: May the following days of Chanukah be filled with love, light, and laughter with your families. Let your Chanukah thoughts be on those not able to celebrate and our hostages come home immediately.
