SAN DIEGO — The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir, under the direction of Pastor Ken Anderson, performed Saturday night, Jan. 18, at Tifereth Israel Synagogue. Gospel rhythms prompted the Jewish audience to join through singing, dancing, and clapping.
The interracial choir’s last performance at the Conservative congregation in 2017 was videotaped, segments of which are included in the choir’s video seen above.
Introducing the songs, Anderson, choir director and pianist, explained their derivation. In this visit, the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir brought a message of hope for peace globally and an understanding of the shared experience of slavery between the Jewish people and African Americans.
