SACRAMENTO, California (Press Release) – Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel (D-Encino), Co-Chairs of the California Legislative Jewish Caucus, alongside Vice Chairs Senator Josh Becker (D-Menlo Park) and Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay), released the following statement:
“The experience of the Jewish Community, particularly within the United States and California, is rooted in the immigrant story. Many of our families came here as immigrants and refugees fleeing persecution and in search of a better life. We see our stories reflected in the immigrants and refugees of today and we are proud to stand in solidarity with them as they are targeted in this moment of deep vulnerability.
“Numerous members of our Caucus have done work to protect undocumented people, both during and before their time in the Legislature. Among other efforts, they have sued on behalf of legal immigrants for illegal Border Patrol operations; sued the first Trump Administration to uphold the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program, which has since allowed over 600,000 Dreamers to renew their DACA status; and have represented and supported undocumented parents undergoing removal proceedings.
“Our Caucus members have shown time and again that we will not stand by as immigrant communities are targeted. The Jewish community is proud to stand in strong solidarity with our immigrant communities in California and across the United States.”
