Tapestry of learning set for January 6 at LFJCC

LA JOLLA, California (Press Release) –  The San Diego Center for Jewish Culture is committed to creating community through culture, arts and education.  In keeping with this mission, on January 6 at 7:00 p.m., the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center will host the 2nd Annual TAPESTRY:  A Community Celebration of Jewish Learning.  Last year the event sold out attracting over 500 participants representing every aspect of San Diego’s diverse Jewish community.

Rabbi Lenore Bohm, SDCJC Interim Director of Jewish Education, explains that Tapestry brings together people of diverse ages, backgrounds, learning styles and interests for one evening to learn, socialize and be inspired. She continues, “The evening will feature over 20 speakers representing a broad spectrum of viewpoints.  They will address topics ranging from Israeli cooking, music and mysticism to Jewish perspectives on environmentalism, teen parenting and comic book super heroes.”

Session titles include: Torah’s Perception of a Mensch; Gratitude – Waking Up to Life; Language is Power: Metaphors, Pronouns and Names in 21st Century Judaism; Our Garden of Eden: Jewish Environmentalism; Building Your Epic Spiritual Fitness Plan and Super Jews: From the X-Men to the Fantastic Four – Jewish Influence in the Comic Book Industry and dozens more. Space is limited for each class so early registration is highly recommended.

The Program will begin with a Community Havdalah, the ceremony marking the end of Shabbat and continues with 24 sessions.  The evening concludes with an elegant kosher dessert reception.

TAPESTRY Chair, Silvana Christy illuminates “The goal is to showcase the talents and treasures we have in our community – all under one roof — for one very special night.  The TAPESTRY vision brings together San Diegans to gather, learn and celebrate Jewish ideas and culture. Of course, the desserts will be the icing on the cake!”
