Alleged Iranian spies were photographing Chabad and Hillel in Chicago
U.S. Representative Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the following statement on Tuesday regarding the arrest of Ahmadreza Mohammadi-Doostdar and Majid Ghorbani:
“Only days ago, two men were arrested in the United States on charges of acting on behalf of the Iranian regime to conduct surveillance and collect intelligence on individuals and groups considered to be enemies of the Iranian regime.
“Notably, the Department of Justice has released that these men were collecting photographic evidence of Chabad and Hillel Jewish centers in Chicago. These flagrant acts of Iranian aggression are intolerable. While citizens of Iran protest in the street for economic opportunity and civil rights, the mullahs focus their efforts on attempts to violate American sovereignty and quell the free speech of dissidents abroad.
“In targeting the Chabad and Hillel Jewish centers, the Iranian regime reveals to the world what observers have known all along – this regime is anti-Semitic at its core and is committed to the destruction of Jewish people and Jewish life across the globe. Deportation of accused Nazi war criminal pleases Republican Jewish Coalition
The Republican Jewish Coalition released the following statement on Tuesday from Executive Director, Matt Brooks:
“Today we thank President Trump for prioritizing and successfully deporting Nazi war criminal, Jakiw Palij. Where other administrations had tried, President Trump, through diplomacy with our European allies, was able to arrange for the deportation of Palij to Germany. We also thank the US Ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, and the hard-working people at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency for their roles in removing this monster from our country.
“Evidence shows that Palij participated in the Nazi plan to murder all of the Jews in Poland. He served as a guard at Trawniki Labor Camp where, in a single day, 6,000 Jewish children, women, and men were murdered. Palij should have faced the consequences of his war crimes decades ago. We commend President Trump for fulfilling America’s promise to the victims of the Holocaust by ensuring that Palij will never walk on American soil again.” — From Republican Jewish Coalition
Center for Jewish History announces changes in board lineup
The Center for Jewish History in New York City announced on Tuesday that it has named Bernard Michael as the new Co-Chair of its Board of Directors and David Dangoor to the new role of Board Vice Chair. The appointments were effective as of July 1, 2018.
Michael has replaced Ira Jolles, who completed his planned term, and will serve alongside co-chair and founder Bruce Slovin, who will continue in that position. Michael’s elevation to co-chair comes after three years of service on the Center’s board, as well as his ongoing service as president of the American Jewish Historical Society, which alongside the American Sephardi Federation, the Leo Baeck Institute, the Yeshiva University Museum, and the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research comprise the five Partner organizations of the Center.
Michael is a co-founder and partner of AWH Partners, LLC, a real estate investment, development and management firm. He was previously the managing member and founder of Michael, Levitt & Rubenstein, LLC, a real estate law firm based in New York City. Prior to that was a partner in the Real Estate Department at Proskauer, LLC.
Dangoor will assume the role of Vice Chair, a newly created position, which will allow for a broader leadership team to establish and oversee the organization’s strategic direction. In addition to his new Board role, Dangoor will continue on as president of the American Sephardi Federation. Dangoor is President of Innoventive Partners, LLC, which provides consulting services in the fields of Strategic Planning, Marketing and Public Relations. — From the Center for Jewish History
