Artist Mordechai Rosenstein to visit San Diego Jewish Academy

SAN DIEGO (Press Release)Students at San Diego Jewish Academy (SDJA) will have the opportunity of a lifetime to work with a world-renowned artist when Mordechai Rosenstein visits the school in December.  At SDJA, he will engage students in the creation of a unique piece of art that will incorporate the school’s current annual theme of kavod, the Hebrew word for respect.

Rosenstein has travelled throughout the U.S. and internationally exhibiting his unique painting style in synagogues and schools.  By uniting his interest in Judaica and art, Rosenstein has given a contemporary and relevant meaning to the art of Hebrew calligraphy.  His works of art have been presented to such dignitaries as President George Bush, Yitzhak Shamir of Israel, authors Elie Wiesel and Chaim Potok and the Pope.

“This project offers an interesting and visionary way to educate students, connect them with another aspect of Judaic life and provide them with a positive outlet for self-expression,” said Debbie Kornberg, director of Jewish life at SDJA.

In conjunction with this world-class artist’s visit to SDJA, a wine and cheese reception will be held in his honor at the campus on Wednesday, December 15 from 7 pm to 9 pm.  The event is free and open to the public. At the reception, some of Rosenstein’s unique works of art will be exhibited.
