SAN DIEGO (Press Release)– Jordan Gorfinkel, a former DC Comics editor who managed the Batman franchise for nearly a decade, will be at Tifereth Israel Synagogue in San Diego on Wednesday, April 10, for a free-to-the-public discussion of his work, which includes a newly published The Passover Haggadah Graphic Novel that brings the Exodus experience into the 21st century.
Gorfinkel’s program, titled Moshe and Superman: How Super Heroes Inspire Torah…and Torah, Superheroes, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Prior to the public presentation, he will lead a private cartooning workshop for fourth-through-seventh grade students at Tifereth Israel’s Abraham Ratner Torah School.
The April 10 visit is part of a book tour promoting The Passover Haggadah Graphic Novel, a vibrantly illustrated take on the Passover experience that includes the full Hebrew text of the Haggadah with English transliteration, art that integrates the English translation into the story, and “how to” instructional graphics depicting traditional rituals and customs.
As a DC Comics editor for most of the 1990s, Gorfinkel was front and center during a time of 400 percent growth for the Batman franchise. During that period, Gorfinkel guided the franchise, coordinating publications, licensing, and movie and television productions. As a cartoonist, Gorfinkel writes and edits Everything’s Relative, a weekly newspaper comic strip published internationally since 1996. In 2007, he founded Avalanche Comics Entertainment, which incorporates illustrated storytelling to develop entertainment content and corporate branding. Gorfinkel also works as an a cappella singer and produces music, videos and live events.
“Moshe and Superman: How Super Heroes Inspire Torah…and Torah, Superheroes” is part of an extensive offering of programs at Tifereth Israel, including the nondenominational Tifereth Israel Community Orchestra, a county-run exercise program for seniors, and more.
Tifereth Israel Synagogue is at 6660 Cowles Mountain Blvd. in the San Carlos neighborhood of San Diego.
