Wine, Mexico, and prayer will be Beth Am study topics in January

SAN DIEGO — Fine Wine and Refined Rabbis will be held on Thursdays from 7:00-8:00pm from January 6, 2011 to January 27, 2011.

Rabbi Matthew Earne, along with one of Beth Am’s premier sommeliers, Brian London, invite you to this class that combines wine tasting and meaningful Jewish learning. A kosher wine will be introduced in each session and a commentary written by a Rabbi who shares the same name of the wine will be studied. This class is $15 per session and each session can be attended on its own.

The Jews of Mexico will be held Tuesdays from 7:00-8:00pm from January 4, 2011 to January 25, 2011. Elisheva Edelson will answer all your questions-  Who are the Jews from Mexico? Since when have the Jews lived in Mexico? How are Mexican Jews different from American Jews?  The cost is $40/$35 for CBA members.

Iyun Tefilah: Finding Meaning in Prayer will be held Sundays at 8:30am from January 9, 2011 to January 30, 2011. Our tradition tells us that one of the acts for which there is no limit of reward is the study of prayer.  Our liturgy has within it profound lessons to learn and powerful meanings to impact our lives.  This class will study our prayers in English, but with an eye to the deeper values imbedded in them and answering the questions of why we pray.

There is no charge for Beth Am members/$30 for non-members.

Congregation Beth Am, located in Carmel Valley also offers Basic Judaism, Beit Midrash Program, Conversational Hebrew, Basic Hebrew, Book Club and Lunch and Learn with Rabbi Earne as ongoing classes.
