Drive-in Chanukah Concert Dec. 14 at Del Mar Fairgrounds

DEL MAR, California (SDJW) — In their efforts to bring meaningful and uplifting Chanukah events to the Jewish community the 25+ Chabad Centers throughout San Diego County have joined together to host the first ever Drive-In Chanukah Concert at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The featured entertainer is Israeli superstar Gad Elbaz, who is known for his high energy and powerful voice! The opening act will feature Rabbi Yossi Rodal, himself a local Chabad rabbi and Director of Chabad of Carlsbad-North.

Rabbi Yonah Fradkin, Director of Chabad of San Diego County and Chabad Headquarters in Scripps Ranch explained, “People are looking for ways to celebrate the holiday that are both Covid-safe and entertaining at the same time.” “We believe we have come up with the perfect solution.”

Participants will drive up, have their tickets scanned through the window of their car, and head to their assigned parking spot. They then can sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.

This event is being professionally produced by the ConcertinYourCar.com production company. There will be two sound options – via the lowered window or FM radio. The circular stage is surrounded on all sides by the cars and then the musical entertainment begins.

In addition to the music there will be a Giant Menorah Lighting Ceremony and a few words by some local dignitaries and Rabbis. They have even planned an interactive game.

Rabbi Yossi Tiefenbrun, Director of Chabad of Pacific Beach, stated, “Chanukah is a time for gatherings.” “However, this year, we cannot get together in the regular way so we found a way to celebrate together, separately in the safety of our own cars.” “We have worked hard to make this a contactless event, so as to closely follow all governmental mandates and regulations.”

There are a limited number of tickets available by logging into www.TheSanDiegoConcert.com. Inquiries can be sent to yeilfort@gmail.com or people can call (760) 943-8891.

The Chanukah Concert is scheduled for Monday, December 14th at 4:30pm (gates open at 3pm).
