Satire: Delta Strain

SAN DIEGO –To the tune of Helen Reddy’s Delta Dawn

Delta strain, why is Covid still our bane?
Could it be we will return to a lockdown?
And if I have my shots, can I go maskless inside spots?
Or will there be a mandate in my town?

Seventeen months and Fauci is still cautious.
Spikes in cases simply make him nauseous.
‘Cause he hoped by now that we could celebrate
When Corona spread had started to abate.

In the early days we knew we should stay home.
Wash our hands, distance, and not roam.
But many people deemed this tyranny.
Getting sick would prove that they were free.

Delta strain, why is Covid still our bane?
Could it be we will return to a lockdown?
And if I have my shots, can I go maskless inside spots,
Or will there be a mandate in my town?

Then one day after the elections
There were safe vaccines for injections.
We would soon develop herd immunity
Averting outbreaks in communities.

Memes and posts sounded phony alarms.
Beware vaccines to avoid great harms.
They’ll track you or even change your genes.
Increase your spewing lethal proteins.

Delta strain, why is Covid still our bane?
Why are viral surges on the rise?
We should have more reliance on the findings of science.
The pandemic should not be politicized.
