UJF Fund Board Pledges $51,600 As Special Fund
Southwestern Jewish Press, December 23, 1955, Page 1
The United Jewish Fund has accepted the responsibility for the Jewish community of San Diego of raising a Special Fund of $51,600 for the United Jewish Appeal, over and above its usual allocation, as its share of $25,000,000 to be raised by Jews of America, according to M.W. Douglas, president.
At a special board meeting directors of the United Jewish Fund were informed of the Middle East problem by Raanan Sivan, new consul of Israel in Los Angeles, who stated that the Special Fund is desperately needed for the immigration aid program of the Jewish Agency which is now engaged in bringing over and settling in Israel 45,000 Jews from Morocco and Tunisia.
Communities throughout the country are assuming responsibility for the UJA Special Fund amounting to 30% of the gross amount raised by each community in its 1955 campaign. This sum is to be made available to the UJA over and above any sums raised for the UJA in each community’s normal campaign.
The United Jewish Fund immediately advised the UJA that an additional $10,000 for 1955 was on the way to aid in this crisis, according to Harry Snyder, treasurer.

“Payment before the end of the year will benefit both the contributor and the Fund,” Snyder said.
The contributor will be able to take his deductions and the Fund will be able to forward more cash to the United Jewish Appeal to meet the crisis overseas,” he continued.
An additional $10,000 from the United Jewish Fund was presented by Dr. A.P. Nasatir at the Annual United Jewish Conference at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City which he attended as the Community delegate.
Pledges and cash should be sent to the United Jewish Fund, 333 Plaza, San Diego 1, California.
