LA JOLLA, California — “Intersections” is the name of a new 12-part series curated and hosted by the multitalented Yale Strom. Each month this year, Strom will introduce a diverse array of artists for programs at UCSD’s Park & Market, a new venue at 1100 Market Street in San Diego. The programs, 7-8:30 p.m., will be previewed by brief interviews of the performing artists and followed by a Q&A. Strom will join playing in some of the programs and the October 26 date will feature his klezmer band, Hot Pstromi.
The opening January 27 program showcased three pianists from different backgrounds, Irving Flores, Tina Chong, and Joshua White.
Thursday, February 16, will be an “Exploration of Indian Classical Music” featuring Indian-born Samir Chatterjee, tabla player, who performed with Ravi Shankar for over two decades; Lebanese-born Paul Livingstone, sitar player, Grammy-Award winner and disciple of Shankar; and Indian-born Suman Laha, Veena player, who has performed world-wide.
The March 10 concert, “Spain and Beyond: Adam Del Monte, Guitarist Extraordinaire,” will bring back a guitarist who often played in the early years of the Lipinsky Jewish Arts Festival at the Lyceum Theatre. He specialized in Flamenco guitar and spoke about the connections between Flamenco and Sephardic music.
