LA JOLLA, California — A man smashed the window of the security vehicle parked near the front gate of Congregation Adat Yeshurun in La Jolla last Wednesday, August 2, synagogue officials said.
The vandalism incident occurred around 6:30 p.m., when the man climbed over the pedestrian front gate and was on the property for less than two minutes. After smashing the car window with a rock, he was picked up outside of the property by a black Nissan hatchback, according to an email that Adat Yeshurun community leaders distributed on Friday. The perpetrator’s motivation was unclear, they wrote.
“We are thankful that we have our new security cameras in place, which allowed us to get strong and clear images of the perpetrator, as well as the car’s make, model, and license plate,” stated Adat Yeshurun’s Rabbi Daniel Reich, President Brian Marcus, and Security Director Moises Eilemberg.
“This is a reminder to us to please stay vigilant and follow security protocols, including no gathering outside the gates during or after services,” they added.
