SAN DIEGO — We want to thank everyone who joined us on February 4 for “Standing Together: A Community Response to Antisemitism.” And for those of you who couldn’t make it, read on for a recap of the important event.
More than 350 participants joined us for a day of learning and activism. It was inspiring and informative, and we look forward to the positive impact this annual symposium will have on our community for years to come.
Attendees were treated to an opening plenary featuring former member of Congress and AJC CEO Ted Deutch and former ADL National Director Abraham Foxman. Foxman’s thoughtful message on the need for hope coupled with meaningful action was particularly moving.
A series of engaging breakout sessions followed – all devoted to discussion, coalition building, and learning how to implement strategies included in the U.S. National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism at the local level. The day concluded with a plenary session featuring author and thought-leader Eric K. Ward on the importance of diversity and communal allyship in the fight against antisemitism. We were thrilled to see our community show up in a profound way and contribute to lively Q&As in every workshop.
As we reflect on all we heard and learned, let us take Foxman’s words to heart. Let us remain hopeful for a brighter, more caring Jewish future while taking meaningful steps to combat antisemitism and all forms of hatred.
We are grateful for our many friends and allies who stand beside us, and for all those who share a desire to strengthen our community. Together, we can forge a path forward to counter antisemitism, ensuring the safety, well-being, and resilience of Jewish life in San Diego.
