Who was Lillian G. Buck?

Editor, San Diego Jewish World

In your July 13, 2010 edition of Adventures in San Diego Jewish History, September 17, 1954 Part 1, you  reprinted a letter about the Merchant of Venice from Lillian G Buck.   Lillian Buck is a historical figure in labor history. Lillian G Buck was born in Warsaw and came to the United States in 1910 and lived on Orchard St in the lower east side of New York City. She was a very active Anarchist in 1914 NYC. She was associated with Alexander Berkman a noted Anarchist and publisher who was a  longtime close friend of Emma Goldman.  She was the Treasurer of the Conference of the Unemployed and was involved in many protests and demonstrations.  She rejected violence and believed in mass protest to effect change. She was involved in the Ferrer Center and later the Stelton School which were schools in NYC and later New Jersey which provided an alternative education to progressive people at that time.  She was born Lillian Goldblatt, married and was then Lillian Rubel and later remarried  to Howard Buck. These are some sources and photos of her.
