SAN DIEGO (Press Release)– The New Children’s Museum and the Anti-Defamation League invite children and families to “dig our differences” at Diversity Day on Sunday June 26, from 10 a.m.–4 p.m.. Offering free admission, the community is encouraged to celebrate the region’s diversity, including the many races, religions, national origins, genders, and sexual orientations that thrive and contribute to San Diego. Mayor Jerry Sanders will give remarks at 10 a.m., joined by NCM board president Mitch Mitchell and ADL board chairman Mark Dillon.
In addition to the current exhibition, Animal Art, and hands-on art making activities, families will experience over a dozen authentic cultural performances throughout the day. From Polynesian dancers to the South American inspired band, Todo Mundo, the authentic entertainment will astound and inspire. In commemoration of the day, children will participate in a community art project featuring their own artwork. These public sculptures will travel throughout San Diego following the event.
“The Anti-Defamation League promotes diversity by fostering intergroup relations and building bridges across diverse cultures with the purpose of combating all forms of prejudice and bigotry, and securing justice and fair treatment to all,” states ADL San Diego regional director Tammy Gillies. “We are delighted to partner with The New Children’s Museum in our community-wide effort.”
“Diversity Day is a wonderful way for families to learn about the different people living in San Diego. The combination of authentic performances and collaborative art making brings the community together, fostering an appreciation of the rich diversity throughout the region,” NCM executive director Rachel Teagle explains. “At NCM, we embrace our differences and invite creative curiosity.”
Diversity Day is made possible by the support of ScholarShare College Savings Plan, DanzArts, and Evolution. Media sponsors include KPBS, Univision San Diego, Telemundo, Telefutura, Recuerdo 102.9, and Nueva 106.5, and Asia Media, Inc.
