SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — The desert is the subject and dessert will be the repast at a reception planned for 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 29, for Prof. Pedro Berliner, director of Ben-Gurion University’s Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research, at the home of Dr. Sergio and Ariela Berkstein.
Berliner will be joined at the gathering by Prof Amos Drory, vice president for external affairs of Ben Gurion University and by David Siegel, consul general for Israel for the Southwestern United States.
Located at Ben Gurion University’s Sde Boqer campus, the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research has focused on “creative solutions for dryland management and desertification prevention throughout the world,” according to Rabbi Arnold Kopikis, representative in San Diego for American Assocaitons, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
Berliner was born in Buenos Aires, studied at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and has held research posts in South Africa, and visiting pofessorships in Spain, Japan and Mexico.
