Council Rummage Sale Set for Nov. 18

“Rummage-rama,” sponsored by the Natonal Council of Jewish Women, will take place on Sunday, Nov. 18, according to Mrs. Bernard Arenson, chairman.
Each donor of merchandise will receive a ticket towards drawings to be held later. The prizes include an electric deep-fryer, dinner for two at Solimine’s, a Dorset-Lux Lucite bag from Marsi’s and a three-piece carving set.
All merchandise collected will be sold at The Thrift Shop, 2205 Logan Ave. The money made from the affair will help support the Council’s welfare and education programs.

“A demonstration of the totality of the National Jewish Welfare Board in serving the social needs of the civilian Jewish community, as well as the social and morale needs of the personnel of the Jewish faith in the Armed Services, will be presented in a series of workshops at the annual Western States Regional Conference of the Jewish Welfare Board being held in San Francisco, November 10-11-12,” said Morris W. Douglas, Chairman of the San Diego USO-Jewish Welfare Board Armed Services Committee.
Milton Friedman, Vice Chairman of the Jewish Welfare Board Armed Services Division, Sixth Army Area, will moderate a panel discussion on Pre-Induction Orientation for Youth, in one of the workshop series. This will be the second annual seminar for pre-inductees and their parents and is intended to acquaint them with the life that faces them in military service.
Cmdr. Elihu H. Rickel, Chaplain, will keynote the Arme Services Division discussion on Monday, Veterans Day, November 12, at a Plenary Armed Services luncheon. Chaplain Rickel will speak on “Religion and Americanism in the Armed Services.”

Dr. Otto Schirn, well known as a key figure in all public relations, economic, and fund raising activities for Israel in this area, has just announced the opening of his own office as Public Relations Consultant at 212 So. Almont Dr. in Beverly Hills, California.
For the last 12 years, Dr. Schirn was the Western Regional Director of the United Israel Appeal and functioned also as the West Coast Coordinator of the Jewish Agency for Palestine.

Children’s Concert Series Announced

Season tickets to the San Diego Symphony’s 1957 Children’s Concert Series will be available through all san Diego City, County, Parochial and Private schools starting Monday. Mrs. Ira Wilson, Children’s Concert chairman, announced today.
The tickets are in the form of a souvenir booklet with an original cover especially designed for the occasion by Dr. Seuss. The booklet also contains program notes on the concerts by Dr. Alex Zimmerman, music director of San Diego City Schools and concert commentator, as well as notes on concert etiquette, an orchestra seating chart and photos of concert principals.
The concerts will be held Saturday mornings, 8:30 a.m. at the Russ auditorium beginning January 19, and continuing February 16, march 30 and April 27.

Joseph Greenhut, Director of Field Operations Armed Services Division. of the National Jewish Welfare Board, this week will address a meeting of the San Diego-USO Jewish Welfare Board Armed Services Committee at the Officers Club of the U.S. naval Station, San Diego, Monday noon in the Marine Room, November 5.
Mr. Greenhut will also meet with military personnel of the 11th Naval District Headquarters and military officials of the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton at Oceanside, to discuss with them the role of Jewsh Welfare Board programs for personnel of Jewish faith currently serving in the Armed Forces.
Greenhut, following his brief stay in San Diego, will proceed to San Francisco where he will appear at the National Jewish Welfare Board Western States Regional Conference in a panel discussion on subject related to “Americanism and Religion as Practiced in the Military Chaplaincy, USO, and the VA Hospitals.”
