Not a ‘wrecking ball,’ but a ‘matzah ball’

JERUSALEM (Press Release) – The world has certainly seen its share of Miley Cyrus Wrecking Ball parody songs, but nothing as creative or unusual as that of a Hassidic Man swinging on a Matzah Ball in a miniature set made of real pieces of Matzah. To complement the video, a mock fan site was created (http://www.matzahball.shalomshore.com) to showcase the virtues of the “real star” of the film, the Matzah Ball itself, which is portrayed as a living entity “with a soul”.

“We had the idea for this film months ago, when the Cyrus film first came out” say Shore, one of the project’s creators. “But we felt that the setting best fit the Passover spirit and decided to release it closer to the holiday.” To film the short video, its three creators constructed a miniature set out of Matzha and strung a Matzah Ball onto the chain of a bathtub plug. A bearded Playmobile man with a tire on his head was used to portray the Hassid. “We didn’t have the means to produce a full-size film, so we went miniature. During set up, all three of us were hunched over the miniature props, with halogen lights shining down.” Says Shore, adding, “It felt like we were doing surgery.”

The film’s creators hope to add a new twist to the both the long line of Miley Cyrus parodies, as well as add a creative spin to the many Passover videos that surface before the holiday.

The film was created by three friends, Shalom Shore, Jacob Ross, and Chaya Pittleman who work together at a non-profit in the Old City of Jerusalem. Shore is a writer and director whose short films have been screened at film festivals, Ross is a photographer, videographer and musician, and Pittleman is a graphic artist with an affinity for cooking.
