SAN DIEGO (SDJW) — Two Jewish women won endorsements from the San Diego County Democratic Central Committee for offices that will be on the ballot in June.  One is an  incumbent, Congresswoman Susan Davis, and the other is a lawyer making a bid for a Superior Court judgeship, Carla Keehn.

Davis is a familiar name on San Diego County ballots, having been elected over a 30 year career to the San Diego School Board, serving from 1983-1992, the state Assembly (1994-2000), and the United States Congress (2000-Present).  She is unopposed for the Democratic nomination in the 53rd Congressional District, while five Republicans and two non-partisan hopefuls have filed papers to oppose her.

Keehn, opposing Judge Lisa Schall for Seat 20 on the California Superior Court, currently serves as an Assistant U.S. Attorney.  Her website says that “in her 18 years as a federal prosecutor, Carla has convicted hundreds of criminals of federal felony offenses including drug smuggling, bank robbery, assault on federal officers with injury, felons in possession of firearms, assault on infants with serious bodily injury (shaken baby), environmental crimes, and currency smuggling.”

The judicial candidate also has worked as a defense lawyer, having served as a public defender in San Diego County.  Prior to that she served as a U.S. army lawyer.  — Donald H. Harrison
