Southwestern Jewish Press, April 4, 1958, Pages 1, 7
A native San Diegan was named to head San Diego’s Christian Committee of the 1958 United Jewish Fund Campaign.
Frank G. Forward, President of the Union Title Insurance and Trust Company, accepted the chairmanship, according to Harry Wax, General Campaign Chairman.
Joining Forward as co-chairman are two of San Diego’s leading religious leaders, Bishop Charles F. Buddy of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego, and Dr. Lester E. Bond, President of the San Diego County Council of Churches.
“Unique in the country, the Christian Committee on behalf of the United Jewish Fund of San Diego,” Mr. Forward said, “is San Diego’s version of real brotherhood in action. Acceptance of this kind of responsibility for our neighbors shows a determination of all of us, regardless of our creed, color, or nationality, to fulfill our responsibilities as good Americans.”
Wax said that the Jewish community was exceedingly proud and privileged to have the leadership of the Christian Committee in the hands of an individual as respected and loved as MR. Forward.
Other members include Capt. E. Robert Anderson, USN (ret.), DeGraff Austin, Armistead Carter, Simon Casady, Charles Dail, Ralph C. Dailard, Jean DePaul, Norman Foster, Frank A. Associated with the Title Company for the last 46 years, Mr. Forward has been Past President of the San Diego Chamber of Commerce and is at present chairman of the Southern California State Chamber of Commerce Highway Committee.
Goal of the United Jewish Fund Campaign is $303,000, of which $203,000 is for the Regular Campaign to aid over 55 local, national and overseas agencies and $100,000 is earmarked for the United Jewish Appeal’s Rescue Fund.
“The Fund goal is increased this year,” Mr. Wax said, “to meet the needs of a minimum of 80,000 Jewish refugees in Eastern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East who must be brought to Israel.” San Diego’s campaign officially opens on April 1.
