The New Inscription for the Statue of Liberty
(with apologies to Emma Lazarus)
Unlike the harbor Lady with upright flame,
Extending arms to seekers of haven.
Pandering politicians willingly cave in,
Turn children back without shame.
Excuse themselves and find others to blame.
To get elected and then block any change.
Douse the light and cover eyes.
Forsake the ancestors who once were despised.
“Return! Our gates are closed,” she must cry. .
With silent lips. “We no longer welcome you.
You frightened minors, yearning to live free,
Escape the gangs, violence, and poverty.
These are your fate, of no concern to me.”
I lower the torch and darken the golden door!”

(Sorry this may post twice) Thank you. I am deeply saddened by (especially from the women!) the violence and hatred displayed by the unemployed, tattooed, trailer park livin’ lot (I’m a loath to use the word ‘people’), of Murrieta. I keep thinking, “have you no shame?” It is reassuring to be on a site dedicated to peace. Miss ya man!
