Humoring the headlines: April 14, 2016

SAN DIEGO─ Donald Trump’s convention manager Paul Manafort accused Ted Cruz of employing “Gestapo tactics” to recruit delegates to vote for him.  Either Manafort doesn’t know anything about the Gestapo or he doesn’t know anything about the Republican Party’s rules regarding the delegate selection process.

Rabbis in Scotland have approved of the manufacturing of kosher tartan that does not contain a mixture of wool and linen.  They can now look Scottish by wearing Tartan while eating kishka (aka kosher haggis).  On the other hand, Jewish women are forbidden to wear tartan kilts for the sake of modesty.

In a surprise announcement, the Vatican press squelched rumors that Bernie Sanders was scheduled to have an audience with Pope Francis.  That is too bad since they have a lot in common.  Both adhere to the teachings of a Jewish radical, hate the moneychangers, and want to succor the poor.

CNN reporters are praising their network’s Family Town Hall interviews which featured the Republican candidates, their wives, and children for humanizing the presidential contenders.  The question is whether these warm and fuzzy moments can humanize their policies and rhetoric.

Jane Sanders said that Bernie and she will vote for Hillary Clinton if they have to.  Compared to the ambivalent rationales Lindsay Graham and other leading Republicans have given for supporting Ted Cruz, this was a ringing endorsement.
