Funny (and) Sad in Israel

TEL AVIV–This past week I have been in Israel. The vibrant night life and cosmopolitanism makes it easy to forget that normality can turn into tragedy at any moment. I had dined near the Sarona Center the day before the shooting. A change of plan and day could have made this tourist into a target because anytime in Israel a civilian can become a casualty. Although I disagree with Israel’s occupation policies, I have never supported the BDS campaign because Palestinian terrorists have their own BDS movement: Bomb, Destroy, Shoot. *
Freud once said that analogies teach us nothing, but they make us feel comfortable. The appointment of Avigdor Lieberman is akin to appointing Donald Trump as the US Ambassador to Mexico.

I had a chance to visit the Museum of Diaspora. It has a wonderful cafe, but true to the Diaspora, it does not serve hummus.
