SAN DIEGO (Press Release) –David Amos will conduct the Tifereth Israel Community Orchestra (TICO) Sunday evening, July 11, beginning at 7 p.m., in a free “Summer Pops” concert at Allied Gardens Community Park, 5155 Greenbrier Avenue.
The sixth annual concert under the stars will include 13 rousing selections, including in the first half: “His Excellency March” by Filmore; “Victory at Sea” by Rodgers; “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”; “Prisoner of Azkaban from Harry Potter; “El Capitan” by Sousa, and “Armed Forces Medley” by Lowden.
Following an intermission, selections will include “Fairest of the Fair” by Sousa; The Sound of Music” by Rodgers; “Leroy Anderson Favorites;” “Entry of the Gladiators” by Fucik; “Star Spangled Spectacular”; “Pomp and Circumstances March #4” by Elgar, and the “Stars and Stripes: by Sousa.
Two community activists will take the baton during the concert: Jay Wilson, executive director of the Mission Trails Regional Park Foundation” will conduct “El Capitan” and Don Brennan, owner of MME event productions, will lead the orchestra in “Pomp and Circumstance.”
“This program has a lot of Americana with emphasis on U.S. Armed Forces, with a number of Sousa marches, the Armed Forces Medley and Victory at Sea,” the conductor commented.
The organizers of the concert recommend families bring blankets, low back chairs and a picnic basket to the concert. Some light snacks and refreshments will be available at the Patrick Henry High School Band booth.
Concert benefactors include the recreational councils for Allied Gardens, Lake Murray/ San Carlos; Larry & Gigie Price, Superior Ready Mix, and the Grantville-Allied Gardens Kiwanis.
