A new San Diego tradition? Menorah lighting, ice skating, and jelly donuts at Liberty Station

SAN DIEGO (SDJW) — Hoping it is starting a new San Diego tradition, the NTC Foundation at Liberty Station has scheduled in conjunction with two local Chabad houses a menorah lighting preceded by ice skating to Chanukah music, beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening, Dec. 24.

“We’re pleased to incorporate our new menorah and lighting ceremony into our Salute the Season festivities,” commented NTC Foundation CEO Lisa Johnson. “Our hope is to make the holidays at Liberty Station as inclusive and welcoming as possible.”

The candle lighting ceremony, overseen by Rabbi Yossi Tiefenbaum of Chabad of Pacific Beach and Rabbi Zalman Carlebach of Chabad of Downtown will conclude with snacks including traditional sufganiyot (jelly donuts).

“This is a wonderful opportuntiy for the Jewish community to gather together in celebration of the festival of lights,” Rabbi Teifenbrun said. “Public menorahs are a great way to build pride in our community and create a way for families to come together.”

Liberty Station is a 361-acre waterfront development in the Roseville section of the San Diego neighborhood of Point Loma. Before 2000, it served as the U.S. Naval Training Center.
